Kudai

Kudai's history is marked by growth and changes. They arose in 2000 as CIAO (the power of the children), when the average age of the members was 11 years old, singing Italian songs that were a success in the 70's, with a lot of illusion and professionalism. Breaking the reticence against pop groups, which at that moment could be felt among the media, they quickly occupied a space as a new group for the young public.

Years passed by and close to the maturity that this implies, the tendencies changed, as well as the group’s goals. In fact, the group’s name was changed to Kudai (a derivation of hard-working young man in Mapuche), identifying them more with the period in which they were and with the topics they were interpreting. The time had come for them to interpreter their own singles; songs that reflected them in a better way, with nowadays subjects, near to the reality of the group and of their fans. Paul Holman, Tomás Manzi, Barbara Sepúlveda and Nicole Natalino turned Kudai into the new Chilean phenomenon. The disc "Vuelo" edited in 2004, each of its sigles: " Sin despertar ", " Ya nada queda ", "Escapar" and " Lejos de la ciudad " were located in the number one place of the musical charts.

A success was continuing other one, VUELO turned out to be the number one disc sold in Chile in 2005, they were awarded with the best Teenager Group award at the APES, after which, the record went throughout national borders. Multiple fans clubs were created along Chile and other countries. Countries such as Argentina, Colombia and Mexico knew of the existence of this Chilean group that was revolutionizing the dial and the sales in our country. Little by little, they were familiarizing themselves with these four Chilean teenagers, of great interpretive force, with a very particular look and a contagious energy inside and outside the scenarios

"SOBREVIVE" it was their second material of the group. With the first single, DEJAME GRITAR, Kudai was located as the number one single at radio stations in our country. Parallel to this, their success had spread outside: Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Bolivia were countries where the group had presence and where they had a solid group of loyal fans. In addition, by this time, they were the official voice of the main musical theme of the new MTV reality show " Quiero mis Quinces ".

But still, a new surprise for the group was coming up, in the middle of the Kudai's first official tour along Latin America, Nicole decided to leave the group. It was a June 2006 and it was the first group’s failure, at least in the eyes of the media that decided to make a profit out of the exit of the blonde integrant. It was not an easy period for anybody, Kudai had to continue with its tour and with the already agreed concerts, they had to deliver a message of calmness to its fans, who did not understand what was happening. It was in Ecuador, when the history of the band began to change, appearing in the Festival EXA of this country, Kudai met Gabriela Villalba, who was presenting her first soloist material. Kudai and their manager listened to her live and were impressed by her work and by her interpretive quality. Thus, she was invited to accompany them to perform at the concerts that they had already scheduled. The public knew Kudai with two feminine and like that, it had to remain.

New nominations were on their way. The MTV Latin Awards and the Proudly Latin Awards had them among its favorites. It was absolutely necessary to continue according to the plan they developed when they first started.

Therefore, Pablo, Barbara and Tomas continued delivering its music at different stages, with Gabriela as a special guest and with a promissory future.

Everything followed it course, and as October 2006 Gabriela was no longer a guest performing along the group but Kudai’s new member. SOBREVIVE… is re-edited adding a new single: "TU", composed by Koko Stambuk. This song was turned into an emblematic symbol for parents who have suffered an abrupt separation from its children. With "TU" Kudai had closed the cycle of “SOBREVIVE”, placing this record in the first places of popularity in Latin America.

In 2007 the group established in Mexico, performing in all the States of the Mexican Republic, consolidating their success in Central and South America in the Aztec lands, and building a solid platform to produce their third album which has been set to conquer territories from the Latin market to the United States and Spain.

Rumors saw Kudai maybe performing in World Peace One in 2008. The group maybe playing in Berlin, Germany, though other sources claim they maybe playing in Puerto Rico. They appeared also in one episode of Skimo and performed "Déjame Gritar". Their album Nadha make hit in stores in May 3, 2008 in Chile and released in the all Latin America in Mexico obtained gold certidicacion for their sales. On May 12, 2008, Kudai premiered their new music video with the Mexican music group, RBD and Eiza Gonzalez called "Estar Bien" (Be Well). The song is a part of a campaign for awareness of obesity, anorexia, bulimia, and for being well, happy, and getting active in Mexico. The video shows the singers on a tour bus singing around the City of Mexico while citizens do various stretches and cardiovascular exercises. On August 5, 2008 the band will make debut in United States music market with their first album released there. On July 21, 2008 their second single of Nadha, "Nada Es Igual" was released in Latin America.

The album has been nominated for "Best Pop Album by Group or Duet" at the Latin Grammy Awards to be held at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on 13th November.[4]
